Tucked away at the far end of the Praia de Barra strip, the Sal e Luz estate is a hidden sanctuary spanning 2.7 hectares of pristine coastal beauty. The villas are perched on a tidal island, with the Indian Ocean gently lapping at its doorstep.

Minimalist in design, maximalist in experience. The architecture is bright, sophisticated and elegant. Think Hamptons meets barefoot luxury. Every wall and corner is a soft white, reflecting the endless light that dances across the dreamy beach hideaway. Here, the beauty is in the simplicity – allowing the wild, natural surroundings of Mozambique to take centre stage.

This estate is made up of two independent villas, that can be booked separately or together, accommodating up to 12 guests:

At Villa de Sal, both bedrooms offer sea views and direct access to the beach, letting the sound of the ocean soothe you to sleep.

At Villa de Luz, 3 of the 4 bedrooms offer sea views over the Indian Ocean, while the 4th is facing the tidal mangroves – a peaceful, private haven where you can enjoy spectacular sunset views, even from the double-head shower.

Living space:

In the afternoons, the kitchen transforms into a convivial bar. Children delight in freshly made milkshakes, while adults gather around the braai, savouring the golden hour that dances upon the ocean. Whether you rise with the sunshine over the Indian Ocean, or unwind with a drink as the sun sets over the mangroves, here – every moment offers the perfect experience, day-after-day.

The Sal e Luz state is located at the end of the Barra Strip, close to the end of the peninsula.

Flying:

Flights with LAM into Inhambane
Complimentary airport transfers are included on arrival and departure days, with a scenic drive to the villas taking just 20 minutes

Driving:

The route to Sal e Luz is accessible by car. A 4 x 4 is advisable, but not essential.

Culinary Experience

The culinary experience at Villas Sal e Luz is exceptional, offering a delightful mix of local flavours and international cuisine, prepared by our talented chef and house manager. Not only is he a master in the kitchen, but he is also fluent in Portuguese, English and Afrikaans, ensuring easy communication with guests from all backgrounds.

Seafood and healthy salads take centre stage on the menu, with fresh catches sourced directly from the Indian Ocean.

Three delicious daily meals, using seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients, plus daily afternoon teas, are included in the stay.

A curated selection of spirits, cocktails, South African wines, beers and soft drinks, and both still and sparkling waters are included in the fully-catered price. Other drinks can be ordered by arrangement, and will be quoted for separately.
