Picture this. You are planning to go to Mozambique for a mid-summer getaway. You decide to stay in one (or two) of the island resorts and beach hotels; chosen from the very diverse accommodation options available.

You will want to do more than swim, and sleep and tan. And that said, it would be great to have a number of different, diverse activities to partake in; activities to suit every individual.

Adventure Sports are one of the main pulling attractions to the different resorts in Mozambique. As most of the popular well known lodges are along the coast and on the Bazurato Archipelago islands, water sports have become an important part of the accommodation industry, with all the hotels and resorts offering both motorised and non motorised water sports and activities as part of their features and attractions.

Water Sports

The resorts offer activities of various levels of participation and different levels of adventure and expertise. Water sports seem to be the most popular with the options available including “on water,” “in water” and “out of water” experiences.

Water sports – on water

Motorised water sports include the likes of tubing, skiing, wake snakes, wake boarding and knee boarding to name but a few. These water sport variations are available at the following resorts:

Water sports – in water

Scuba diving the coral reefs and ship wrecks, and snorkelling along the waters edge are two of the main adventure water sports in which you are fully emerged in the water. Beach and islands reports offering these adventure sports and training include Marlin Lodge, Benguerra Lodge, Indigo Bay, Pestana Bazurato, Dungong, Azura, Vilanculos, Matemo, Medjumbe, Vamizi, Pemba Beach Hotel, Barra Lodge and Pestana Inhaca.

Water sports – involving water

Para-sailing involves specialised para-sail equipment and requires the use of a 30 ‘caterpillar powered, genuine parasail boat with a landing/launch deck incorporated into the boat. This was specifically designed to launch and land multiple people at one time using a hydraulically operated winch system. The system allows multiple pax flight to a maximum of 400m and is the pinnacle of parasail equipment available. Parasailing is available at Vilanculos Beach Lodge exclusively.

Other sports

Other adventure sports offered by some of the resorts include: Horse riding trips along the beaches and inland, as well as game fishing and sport fishing.

At Vilanculos Beach Lodge, you have the option of riding either horses or camels along the beach front. This can be arranged through reservations with the resort management and breakfast, day time, sunset or even night rides are available.
