Welcome to Gorongosa Wild Camp

Gorongosa’s Wild Camps are set up in different regions of untouched wilderness of the mighty Gorongosa National Park, a wild pristine environment of some 4,000 square kilometres in Sofala province, Central Mozambique. Gorongosa Wild Camp is a seasonal campsite set inside the park, it includes equipped tents, with basic amenities.

Gorongosa’s “Wild-Camps” describes a nomadic camping style with minimal environmental impact and with resort style comfort, amenities and service, normally not associated with traditional camping.

  • Together with your guide you will plan the activities to do during your stay with us. Included in the rate are Game drives, walking safaris, Boating & Canoeing (in Season), trips to Mount Gorongosa can be arranged for an additional fee.

Experience the full richness of the Park’s extraordinary flora and fauna with our qualified guides – who will open your eyes to the hidden language of tracks and animal signs.

GORONGOSA MOUNTAIN & COFFEE TOUR

After we tour the Gorongosa Coffee project – we’ll hike down to swim in the deep, clear, natural pools of Murombodzi Falls before a picnic lunch. End off your day with a special Gorongosa Coffee tasting before heading back to camp. Subject to availability.

COMMUNITY VISITS

Experience bespoke visits to the Parks’ renowned community projects on foot, or by bike.

E.O. WILSON LAB TOURS

The E.O. Wilson Laboratory is dedicated to training the next generation of Mozambican scientists. Subject to availability.

PANGOLIN RESCUE CENTRE VISIT

Pangolins are the world’s most trafficked mammal. See first hand the pioneering work of our rangers in rescuing pangolins from poachers and traffickers, and returning them to the wild where they belong. Subject to availability.

BOATING & CANOEING WHEN IN SEASON

Water activities are seasonal and run from March to May depending on water levels.

Once in Beira, there is a road transfer  (+/- 4h) (or from Chimoio +/- 2,5h). Guests arriving in Beira/Chimoio after 2 pm must overnight in the city and will be transferred to the Park the following morning.

From there, there are light aircraft transfers from Beira to Gorongosa National Park (duration: +/- 30 minutes).

This adventure is only bookable as a sleepout adventure whilst staying at either of the three main camps, namely, Muzimu Lodge, Gorongosa Wild Camp or Montebelo at Gorongosa.

  • Children under 12 years old cannot be accommodated.
  • Children aged 12 and above will be charged at the adult rate.
  • Children aged 12 to 16 must share a chalet or tent with an adult family member.
  • Children aged 16 and above may be accommodated in their own room, either sharing or single.

Malaria-carrying mosquitoes are common in our area. While we provide mosquito nets on all windows, we recommend using repellents or taking prophylaxis before visiting malaria-prone regions.
