The magnificent Quirimbas Archipelago in Cabo Delgado Province, Northern Mozambique, is a captivating chain of 32 islands. These idyllic islands stretch from the quaint city of Pemba in the south to the town of Palma in the north. The Quirimbas National Park includes a vast expanse of enchanted forest and some of the charming islands in the south of the Archipelago. The park was established in 2002 as an answer to the local community’s need to nurture and sustain their precious natural environment. The Quirimbas have enormous cultural and historical value, with a combination of Arabian, Portuguese and African influences.
The impressive 1 500 square km marine area of Quirimbas National Park includes 11 coral islands stretching for 100km.
Matemo Island Resort is situated in the heart of the Quirimbas. The focus of this luxury resort is on leisure, fishing and diving. You can even take a “Water taxi” to the nearby Ibo Island for a fascinating, cultural experience.
The Resort has 24 thatched chalets, right on the beach, with versatile sleeping facilities with either two twin beds or queen size beds. There are also a few interleading chalets ideal for families with young children. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom with designer bath & indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning, satellite TV and the convenience of mini-bars and tea/coffee making facilities. Chalets are set separately from the main building where you’ll dine on sublime local seafood fare, relax at the pool and enjoy sumptuous cocktails at the bar.
Treat yourself to an underwater wonderland with captivating diving and snorkelling where you can experience some of the world’s richest coral reefs. The Quirimbas Islands feature phenomenal vertical drop-of
fs, some up to 400 meters. These walls are abundant with coral covered caves and tropical fish ranging from Gobies to mammoth Napoleon Wrasse and game fish including Kingfish and Spanish Mackerel.
Matemo Island is accessed from Pemba by light aircraft transfer – 25 min flight.
